Geographically, the Marche region is located in eastern central Italy.
Bordered to the north by Emilia-Romagna, it stretches 180 km along the Adriatic coast to the east.

To the west, it borders Tuscany and Umbria, while to the south, the Sibillini Mountains lead into Abruzzo.

The Marche is divided into the provinces of Pesaro-Urbino, Ancona, Macerata, and Ascoli Piceno.

Ancona is the capital of the Marche and, with 103,000 inhabitants, its largest city. While the coastal areas are densely populated, the hilly hinterland still offers vast stretches of unspoiled nature.

The region's geographical structure is distinctive: the Apennines run parallel to the Adriatic at a distance of approximately 80 km. Numerous river valleys cut across the landscape at right angles to the mountains; in some places, they have carved out steep gorges, such as the Furlo Gorge, while elsewhere, they have created vast underground caverns, like the Frasassi Caves.
